Getting ready to depart!

Hey guys!
This is just my first try at this to make sure I am actually able to share what I'd like with you.
This is also my first time blogging, so please bear with me through this adventure and the irregularity with which I will be posting.
As you know by now, I'm about to embark on a 4.5month journey to Antarctica. Living at Casey Station and working for the University of Tasmania and the Australian Antarctic Division. I will  be participating in the diving program there, spending some of my time under the ice!
Here is a bit more about the actual science of the project I'm participating in:

The last few days have been great, both greatly enjoyable and greatly stressful trying to get everything organised in time for my accelerated departure tonight at midnight. It was wonderful to catch up with my parents and show them around. They even allowed me to make them stand in the snow while I tested out my fancy Antarctic Puffer jacket. :) Drove them all around the Huon Valley, stopping for many a delicious cider or pie.

But now it's about time to head off. My room is fully packed away, my belongings all kindly stored at friend's houses (or at the Frog with my loves :)), my suitcases packed and weighed in within 500gr of my allowances.
My nerves almost feel like they are starting to calm as there is less and less for me to do before departing except a pre-flight briefing and enjoying the company of my loved ones.
More news once I've actually hit the ice. I will update from either McMurdo or Casey, depending on how out flight schedules go. (Fingers crossed I get a few days to visit and enjoy Mc Murdo before hopping on my Hercules military plane to Casey!)

Great views between rainshowers while driving around the Huon Valley

My life supplies for the next 4.5 months!
